Test Stripping

2022
The visual rhythm of the strips comes from my background in the darkroom, in which I often used a ripped or cut strip of light-sensitive photo paper to test a series of exposures before creating a printed enlargement from the negative. This reference to the photographic process is intentional, and is one of many present in my work. Most of the pieces from this show were made from tearing up the photographs I displayed in Exhibition(ist). I was interested in the life-span of the printed image and how I might recycle the work to make something new. I created this work during my Iowa Artist Fellowship, funded by the Iowa Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
